I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Anthony Roy speak about Indigneous imagery and mascots yesterday at UIC, one point I cant seem to get out of my head is when you google the different racial people and the images that come up. (I cant remember the name of the lady who did the talk, maybe you can help me out Anthony) It CLEARLY showed how Indigenous people are a people of the past, mystified, mythical fictional characters, stereotyped, etc etc etc. Well, I had to try for myself and share with my friends who choose to voice opinions on why imagery and mascots are not an issue. Since Ive lived in Chicago Im blown away at how little the people really know. Everyday I see people of different races get along and be kind to one another and then i get these looks đŗ when I mention Ive lived on the rez my whole life. Followed by questions of teepees, electricity and what this foreign land looks like.*facepalm* I feel foreign in a land Ive always called my home and my ancestors before me. Take this as you wish, google for yourself. Im just at a loss on how people dont think that this is an issue.
