I thought I had seen and heard it all this week until this: According to a coalition of NYPD officers, some retired, Mayor de Blasios stated concern regarding the safety of his son is whats fueled the protests or what the NYPD is deeming civil unrest. They also hold De Blasio responsible, therefore, for the death of two police officers last week. In their form of upset and protest, they hired a plane to fly a banner with the following words, DE BLASIO, OUR BACKS HAVE TURNED TO YOU. Well Commissioner Bratton, who was selected by De Blasio to run the police department, what say you about this? Will the NYPD physically turn their backs to the Mayor when he appears at one of the police officers funeral tomorrow? So is the NYPD saying that the broken windows policing, racial profiling and excessive abuse of power by some police officers okay? There is a systemic problem not just here in NYC but nationally that these coalition of NYPD officers refuse to acknowledge. How can they be so clouded by De Blasios stated concern for his son to completely miss the national and global outcry for justice for Eric Garner, Mike Brown, Akai Gurley, Aiyana Jones, and the countless other unarmed black and brown men, women, and children around the country and in NYC; to miss the outcry for reforming police policies and practices; to have a checks and balances of those practices on a regular basis. So many community policing best practices out there. Hope they can open themselves up to see all thats possible not just what they remaining as the systemic-status quo.
