I thought I had seen or heard of a lot of crazy things the goverment has pulled but the Hasan trial really tops them all! Hasan (the Muslim officer in the USA Army) who shot and killed 13 people in Ft. Hood in 2009 tried to plead guilty at the time but the govt. said NO you must go to trial so we can ask for the death penlty. They knew that after he was convicted it would be an automatic appeal that would take decades to settle. The trial cost $5 million and he drew his army pay of over $300,000 . The best part is no active soldier has been put to death since 1961. Hasan will rot in prison but the govt. got their big $5 million trial. Just another waste of taxpayers money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
