I thought I needed to weigh in on the missing AirAsia plane and give everyone a little bit of food for thought. This is now the second plane this year lost in basically the same area. Search and rescue has been going on now for well over 22 hours without any sign of wreckage. The Malaysian Airplane is still missing and it went down 10months ago in March. Having done many many search and rescue missions in the US Navy aboard the USS Enterprise the longest search for a downed plane we ever did was for two F-14s that went down near Hong Kong and these are much smaller planes in much deeper water and we located both planes in 39 hours. In most cases we could located downed aircraft usually within hours or one day at the most. Here are the issues I have with both these missing planes.... 1) Neither radioed a Mayday Call before disappearing. 2) Neither planes black boxs homing signals were detected. 3) These airlines have been flying these routes for decades with no issues or problems yet this year we not only have one plane but two disappear from radar. 4) The deepest section of the Java sea is only 230 meters that is nothing for reference the Titanic sits at about 12,500 meters below the ocean. When they finally went looking for her it took less then 2 days to find the Titanic in water much rougher and almost 7 times deeper. At this point it would seem that everything points to weather and possible pilot error in the loss of this jet, but if this AirAsia plane remains missing 10 months or longer we could have a serious issue here because this planes went missing in a much smaller search area again for reference purposes this search area is about the size of Manhattan Island in New York and it is lost in water that is on average only about 125 meters deep. Many people can recall the John Kennedy Jr. plane crash off the coast of New York that plane went down in a search area roughly the same size and in water much deeper and was a small single engine prop plane and it was found in less then 24 hours in stormy weather conditions. If no wreckage is found floating or discovered on the bottom of the Sea within the next couple of days one could only conclude that this plane did not go down in the Java Sea and if it did not go down then the next question is where did it go? Both these missing Malaysian area jet planes could carry enough fuel to make a non stop trip across the Pacific Ocean to the shores of the USA and could easily carry a large scale biological or Dirty nuclear bomb and would make the perfect unnoticed and relatively undetectable missile.
