I thought I was taking a break from work when I went overseas. But I counselled many and many wanted interventions for their family issues; I witnessed 2 epileptic fits and had to provide first aid; the lady behind me on the flight to Emirates randomly fell unconscious (I think severe Diabetes attack) and I had to loosen her belt, secure her head and call for help, while others were in shock and felt helpless; our cruise in London had a head-on collision with a cargo-vessel and I had to comfort passengers who were in shock; after Laylatul Qadr program 3am, I heard a loud bang as I was walking, then I saw a man lying half-conscious in the middle of the road on his scooter.. I ran up to him in my dishdaasha (I looked funny) and called the ambulance and tried to comfort him -a hit and run. It was a bad hit but alhamdulillah he survived with what appeared to be rib breakages. And now my first day back at work as a psychologist and doing what I do. Moral of the story: -trouble follows me so if youre around me, youre in danger :P -when youre a health professional, youre working 24/7 and we should appreciate the hard work of nurses, doctors and other health professionals as Im continuously learning how much hard work it is -at any time an incident can happen around us and we should all try and equip ourselves with at least some basic skills (as a minimum, to call for help) as we can all be put in such situations and can all save lives. First aid courses are available for everyone and we should do or re-do this at least.
