I thought I would share a conversation I had yesterday with Dave Dubbert, owner of Ohler & Holzhauer. Local guy, owns his own business. Works hard, every day. Employs quite a few folks in good paying jobs. Anyway, I asked him what percentage of the residential work his company does is at secondary residential homes (would inclcude condos). He said he couldnt give me an exact percentage, but it would be a lot. This is the economic impact of tourism and, yes, CONDOS. So many folks who live somewhere else, own property here, and spend their money here. Think about businesses like Transmissions Unlimited (Eric and Kassie Anderson) or Muffler Smiths (Kim and Lisa Smith)...how much of their incomes, and the incomes of their employees are derived from those damn tourists? I dont think it wise to chase these folks away.
