I thought James Franco channeled a little bit of Terrence Malick - TopicsExpress

I thought James Franco channeled a little bit of Terrence Malick (not a bad thing) in his film adaptation of William Faulkners classic 1930 novel, AS I LAY DYING. Panned by critics and unsurprisingly spurned by audiences, I thought Mr. Francos directorial debut was a nice effort, especially since he filmed another unfilmable novel: the long harrowing journey of the tragically flawed and totally dysfunctional Bundren family from their rural home to the city, to bury the family matriarch according to her wishes. Mr. Franco was able to elicit some of the dark humor of the novel and to create a visually striking meditation on vanity and human mortality. With Tim Blake Nelson as Anse Bundren, James Franco as Darl and Ahna OReilly as Dewey Dell. Perhaps for students of film and literature only. An interesting effort from an interesting actor/writer/director. Mr. Franco has also recently helmed another straight to DVD literary adaptation: The great Cormac McCarthys CHILD OF GOD. Its in my Netflix queue. Enjoy the Movies and the Oscars! Rock On!
