I thought The Secret was much too New Agey for me. To my - TopicsExpress

I thought The Secret was much too New Agey for me. To my sensibilities it was not oriented to uncovering the truth of our essential nature as much as it was that age old glitz-talk spawned from the Power of Positive Thinking movement, that you can get anything you want if you change, change, change your attitude. My beef with this arrises from my own experience in which I find the power of positive thinking movement essentially a rejection of one half of who we are, the via negativa aspects of our innards. The path of discerning consciousness without preference is the path of via negativa, of looking at the difficult stuff frontally, in which we must ultimately embrace and accept all aspects of the psyche. My take on the positive thinking movement is that it shoves unwanted psychic content deeper into the shadow box un-metabolized and thus can only result in surface living or what appears positive, and thus reinforces a kind of dis-owning dynamic within ourselves. Manifesting abundance, as they say. Walking the road of via negativa can be a tougher path, but the orientation is to truth and acceptance and it is ultimately opening and cultivates a willingness to face all things as they are, as life is. And in that the path of the heart is the path of love and acceptance it will be interesting to see if this movie gets it differently than The Secret. But so far this trailer looks pretty glitzy to me, and strung with cliches about the heart, and sweeping swirls of music and animation to jack us up. So I will not likely rush out to see it.
