I thought it best to ask this on a separate post but its been touched on below. Can someone explain positive and negative reinforcement to me? In my field, positive feedback seeks to amplify a behaviour, negative feedback is a corrective action - it balances and attempts to produce an output (behaviour) that is closer to that desired. Consequently, Ive always thought of good riding and training horses as being quite a lot about achieving a delicate and tactful balance of +ve and -ve feedback/reinforcement. Sorry if I have misunderstood posts elsewhere but Ive often got the feeling that some advocating learning theory say -ve reinforcement = bad, +ve reinforcement = good.
