I thought long and hard about this ALS ice bucket thing (then and now) and by now you’re all probably sick and tired of reading about it. But I donated money that will most surely be used for research and that means animal testing, which is of course a horrible and very cruel thing and something I don’t stand for. I don’t eat meat. (Wow!) But I also have to take 5 to 7 pills a day for my anxiety disorder and depression and these had to be tested too at some point. Do I really have to take all these pills? Isn’t it all just in my head? I’m afraid not. I wish it were. I’m not comparing depression to cancer, multiple sclerosis or in this case amyotrophic lateral sclerosis of course. I’ve seen and spent time with people who had no chance of ever being cured and that’s why I’ve made my decision. Check what you have in your medicine cabinet. I’m sure we don’t need all the over the counter medicine. But there are diseases that can only be treated with medication. I’ve decided not to waste water and became a part of wasting animal lives and that is something I have to do 7 times a day by taking 7 pills a day. I’m ashamed but also at a loss. After thought: I know of a lot of animal-friendly organizations but this was this.
