I thought road bikes were supposed to be much faster (>10% ??) than a MTB and more suitable for hill climbs(tarmac) - is this a fact or a myth ??? :D :D Here is a comparison chart of two different rides that I did on my MTB (Cannondale F4, 48mm Knobbies) and on my road bike(Trek 1.5, 23c, w/Cleats). The two rides are quite comparable in terms of gradiant, ride time, road surface,.. Based on the comparison chart, it looks like the savings(speed) from my road bike is negligible and also that I had to put in more effort (higher bpm) to better my MTB timing. Road bike vertical ascent - 623m/hr MTB vertical ascent - 617m/hr All other details are directly available in the chart.
