I thought this kind of nailed how I feel about check your privelege, etc. Disclaimer: I am someone with more privilege than average, even for someone in the developed world. From Dave: This notion of innate privilege based NOT on the idea of actual position, power or wealth but simply on what your skin color or gender is, is a particularly insidious secularized version of the obnoxious notion of original sin. To suggest that someone A) has had an easier life than you or some other person based simply what you can tell by looking at them is dangerously stupid and insulting, and to suggest further that B) they should expect some kind of abuse or penalty (like a Tithe) because of it is hostile and aggressive, and presumptuous as hell because it assumes that they have already become part of your religion (because of course, to you, that is the only correct way to think). Anyone pushing this at me is exactly the same as an uninvited religious zealot peeking through my mailslot and better have thick skin if they start bending my ear. I have a low opinion of shallow proselytizers and zero patience or respect for ideologues.
