I thought this would be good for everyone to know. Prereleases are meant to be the most casual of all Magic events. This is what I found on judges commenting about deck construction at prereleases. Talking with people during deck construction is okay because the JAR doesnt say anything about it (meaning it isnt an unwanted behavior). So if my friend knows better than me which cards are good, he can tell me how to build my deck, or build it for me. Using outside notes during deck construction is NOT okay because the MTR explicitly disallows this (MTR 2.11). So if I brought in a sheet with card rankings on it to use for building my deck, thats not allowed. Do I have this right? To me, this seems like sort of a weird distinction because these two things are so similar (so similar that they ARE grouped together in the IPG). I understand that Regular is focused more on the fun than the letter of the rules, but I still like having clear guidelines for my players so they dont feel like Im making it up as I go LikeLike · Todd Dalton It is another odd distinction, but hell during prereleases players are even encouraged to help new players out with deck construction if they want it. You are correct.
