I thought this would be obvious... As an independent owner who would like to rent out your camera package, price it lower than camera rental houses. The camera rental house has back ups, they will SEND someone with a replacement camera or part of a package if something goes wrong during the shoot. Its likely we are only getting that one item from you, whereas when we rent from a vendor, we get many items. This can sometimes come with an overall discount based on how much we are renting. I get that you are trying to pay off the loan for the camera you bought. I get that its your precious baby, your shiny new toy. To us its a piece of equipment that better work for the run of the show. When choosing your price, do not go to the vendor site and judge by the rate listed. No one who has been in the business for more than one show pays that price. Know its discounted at least 10%. Go another 40% lower than that and you have a price that makes the inconvenience of renting from an individual worth it. If its not worth it to you to rent it out at so low a price, let it collect dust or get out there and shoot something with it yourself. This has been a public service message.
