I thought to myself what a painful and mournful year. How do I reflect and rejoice in such a time as this? Then I came to Nashville and spent a few days with young revolutiinaries with the courage to live when often I found it easier to die. Many of them have made and are making sacrifices folks twice their age would not or could not. These street soldiers have been on the streets fighting for their lives, decrying the loss of lives and fighting for our livez everyday. Some are homeless. Some have been fired. Others have lost family and friends. Still others face threats, harrasments and heightened profiling because they believe in freedom! This has been a painful and mournful year. Yet, I resolve to live and keep fighting for freedom, too. I am inspired by those brave sisters and brothers not only for their courage to live and fight and witness for justice. I admire their ability to be vulnerable and humble in this struggle. There is freedom in their tears as well as in their chants. And so on this New Years eve of chronos time and continuum of a Kairos movement; I humbly thank God for those courageous dreamers, visionaries and prophetic youth. You revived me when I was slipping into dispair. In the words of Olive Schreiner, the sound of your marching feet and resounding voiced are like a thousand times ten thousand and thousands of thousands beating this way. Yours are the feet that followed ancestors tracks to the waters edge. Now the thousands time ten thousand and thousands you hear is the sound of those that shall follow you. Lead on! Make a track to the waters edge! There you shal build bridges for the entire human race. Thank you and the ancestors and elders that came before. I join you at the waters edge and in the margins. Ase Ashe Hope & Justice and Freedom in 2015!
