I told the HSE manager in the area that I didnt accept the response to my motion yesterday at the North Eastern Health Board. A town the size of Ballymun needs its own dedicated walk in day centre for mental health patients. The venue in itself is irrelevant as the Ballymun shopping centre is going to be detentanted. Tús Nua is a vital service and we cant afford to lose it or for the clients to have to travel to neighbouring areas for treatment. It provides professional help and advice to people dealing with mental health issues through therapies such as arts and crafts and cooking classes, as well as practical day-to-day advice around money A review Group was established by Dublin North City Mental Health Management Team to review Day Centres. During this review, Tus Nua was prioritised as concern by the staff on site was brought to the attention of the Mental Health Management Team in relation to the condition of the building. Recommendations were put in place including the assessment of each service user to identify their specific mental health needs. These assessments were commenced on 21st These assessments are now complete and those with mental health needs will be provided with alternative mental health services such as day hospital services etc,. Those without mental health needs will be referred to local Primary Care Services.
