I told this true story from my teen days to another friend so I think Ill just post it here for all: I gotta tell you this story & it will be kinda long. Amity is built on a square with one way trafic to the right. In 1962 there was a city hall & theater in the center (gone now). Our goofy city marshall had a blue/white 55 Ford & he always parked in front of the theater. This day he had traded the Ford for a red/white 55 Buick & was now parked in his usual spot. One of our young town citizens had also that day bought himself a Hopped up A Model coupe. Some of us happened to be standing looking out the cafe window that faced the square & gave us a great view of the square & the great chase that was about to begin. The A Model came in from toward Glenwood along about midnight, circled the square a time or two & not knowing the marshall had traded cars, he thought the coast was clear so he put the pedal down & began putting on a show around the City Hall square. About the 2nd time around, the marshall gave chase with no lights or siren yet on his new car. Around & around they went with the A Model not knowing the high law was after him. The A Model was so much faster than the Buick that after a time it lapped the Buick & though the Buick was pursuing the A Model, The A Model had caught up with it & was now close onto the back bumper of the Buick. We were now standing outside the cafe waving & pointing trying to show the A Model that although he was close behind the Buick, he was actually the target of a hot pursuit. Finally the A Model caught on to the fact that he was being chased by the law directly in front of him so he darted back out toward Glenwood & the marshall had to make another full lap around the square before he could take out Hwy 8 after the A Model. The A Model got plumb away. True store & one of my funniest teen memories.
