I took Hercules to represent the Sanders Farm for the blessing of the animals at our church, our Pastor Cardelia Howell-Diamond has generously offered to come out this week and bless AB for her fertility and Cooper for her pregnancy, which is absolutely wonderful! Who would have guessed my little miniature horse, who has never been on a trailer or off the farm in all of his eight years would be better mannered than my farm dog, who found the need to wear a leash an affront:)? Hercules followed me on without hesitation, though he fussed and reared an acted a bit obnoxious on the trailer, was an energetic but well behaved fellow once we got there, and to my surprise jumped back on the trailer without hesitation for the trip home...I suppose as he has been with us all his life he trusts us. he is really a good sort....there was a lot of drama from the other horses and cows when I took him away, but he was quite the rock star when he returned in the pasture. I saw my first ever poodle red bone coon hound cross, very very cool, looks like a poodle, bays like a hound, a sound I love I guess cause I am a country girl. Lots of lovely dogs and the church raised money for the snap program, which offers low cost spay and neuter. Came home to the odd smell of burning marshmallows,, to discover my dehydrator, which was doing a great job and had dropped the moisture level by 1% in just a few hours, was up a tad high, and the warm wax began to melt and drip the honey out and on the hydrator. Scraped the frames off into the extractor, I salvaged a little bit,, a disappointing year for honey but I count myself lucky to have two thriving hives all things considering, and the small amount of honey I have extracted is the richest, sweetest I have ever tasted.....I left the scraped frames for the girls to clean, and was embarrassed by their gluttony; as the sun was going down they had gorged themselves on honey and were too fat and heavy to get back to their hives; had to put on my mask and carry the frames back to bee yard where they tumbled off and crawled back to the hives, just able to fly to get in the entrance. It will be cold and possibly wet tonight, bad night for naughtily over indulgent bees to be away from the hives. reminds me their feasting on fermenting figs and blundering about the yard...shameful behavior from so orderly diciplined a creature:)
