I took a road trip with my riding buddy Robin today to pick up a Christmas pony for her daughter. This is also a Christmas miracle for this little pony, a 6 year old AMHA pending mare, who was abandoned in a backyard an unknown amount of time ago. Neighbors and people renovating the house have been feeding her all sorts of rubbish, such as melon, salad ingredients, potatoes, and even canned fruit cocktail! The guy who was renovating the house was placing her for a small adoption fee, and she came with her old paperwork naming her breeder, so we knew she had some sort of background. She was in decent condition considering her circumstances, but had some rain rot and needs a trim for sure. She was difficult to catch, and she kicked me in the back (Im fine), but after a couple hours of gaining her trust, I finally got a rope tossed over her neck with her standing still, and she instantly melted into a sweet, loving, willing little pony. She wasnt too hard to load, although she stopped at the top of the ramp for about 5-10 minutes, but she just stood there. No backing up, rearing, or any of that. She is happily bedded in a very big stall with hay and clean water, out of the rain and muck. Poor little thing whinnies for everyone, it is the most adorable thing! Im so happy I will get to watch this little pony blossom into the beautiful family pet she deserves to be.
