I took a short class on aromatherapy a couple days ago, and the teacher mentioned that there is a lot of medical literature on the efficacy of certain essential oils when used as an antibiotic. An example he gave was of a woman in her 40s with Type I diabetes. She was hospitalized because she had a serious MRSA infection that had completely ravaged her foot, and it was not responding to antibiotics. He showed a gnarly picture, and you could see that a chunk of her heel was simply missing, and the underside of her foot was devastated. The hospital wanted to amputate her foot, but she was willing to try anything to save her foot. My instructor was part of her medical team, and they gave her 2-4 IV treatments of essential cinnamon oil (not a whole lot because its very concentrated). They also did some topical therapies involving essential oils. It took several months, but she *completely* recovered. He showed a picture of her foot about 5 months later, and you could see some scarring, but the missing tissue in her heel had regrown. Just incredible!!!
