I took my dogs on an impromptu visit today to one of our special places. This place was discovered by Will not even a year ago and quickly became one of our go-to exploring spots for our dogs. We could allow them to run freely here off-leash without worry of rangers and other people in general. Sadly we watched as this place slowly was invaded by bulldozers and heavy construction equipment, preparing the land for a new subdivision. We had some of our best family hikes there, often bringing along a picnic lunch and sometimes Will would even catch a nap just laying on a hill as the dogs and I played. Ive only found the courage one other time to visit this place since Will died. The construction process, thankfully, has been slow and has afforded us more time than I thought to enjoy this place before it completely falls to humanity and we can no longer freely run there. Today was special. It was later in the afternoon so the construction workers and their obnoxious equipment were gone. I laughed and cried equally so watching what is left of my family. The sun and clouds were stunning today. The wind drowned out the sound of the nearby busy road, and it felt like it was just me and the dogs for miles and miles (of course that couldnt be further from the truth). They were so happy. I was so happy. I thought....a lot. Perhaps it is time to quit listening to everybody else, and listen to my heart. True love resides within ones heart forever, and by listening to my heart, I am listening to what Will has wanted for me all along.
