I took my new Vexilar sonar Phone to the Great Miami River to test - TopicsExpress

I took my new Vexilar sonar Phone to the Great Miami River to test its capabilities. My first impression is a good one. I wont go into excruciating detail at this point, but I do have a few observations: 1.Initially I was alarmed when my screen was full of useless clutter, but I learned to fix that by lowering the gain. The gain setting is important. 2. Its not that big of a deal to make a connection to it. You connect to it using a Wi-Fi connection in the exact same manner that you would use in connecting to any Wi-Fi device. 3. As I posted a few days ago, it is substantially larger and heavier than the Hummingbird Smartcast. 4. The range is awesome. I cast it 125 feet and got immediate reception. On another occasion I let it drift 200 feet downriver and I never lost communication. I do not have any doubts that it is good for well over 100 yards in decent conditions. 5. The quality of the image and the reception of a signal can be adversely impacted by waves. Thats really just a matter of physics and not a flaw in the design. 6. I didnt have my fishing equipment with me today, but I wish I would have had something after seeing that school of fish as shown in the screenshot from my phone. I need to go back to that spot with an adjustable slip bobber and some minnows. 7. I should add that it uses a persons smartphone to display images and control the unit. 8. Other people should be able to listen in on its broadcast providing that they have downloaded the free app and that you are generous to give them the password to log onto the sonar. 9. This thing is heavy. My 3lb test curve rod seemed to be ideal for tossing it out. Ill give a more thorough review after I have had more time to use it, but for now my initial impression is a positive one. I cant wait to take this to a few places once the ice is off.
