I took one for the team and decided to actually experience joy #7: life is the show lane. Acting as a babysitter/manny to my poor Macdonald matriarch mother, we built up the courage and joined the rest of the classes at the annual Perth Royal Show. Greeted by deep-fried hot dogs on sticks, countless twisted potatoes on skewers, a variety of strollers filled with shows bags, cheap grotesque toys and no children, and, of course the rapidly growing Bogan population. Youze was the preferred use of expression amongst show-goers, and frullets, mullets or heavily-waxed dos, accompanied by trainers matched with heavily-printed hoodies and Yolo or swag caps, was the dress code. Mother, dressed in Susan style, and myself, in docs and ripped shorts, stood out like cotton-on in Claremont quarter. Unfortunately, no extreme ride, duck-hook game or free facelift cream, could distract mum and her hairy eyeball from focusing on the larger-then-life mammals that were in our presence, and Im not referring to the horses. Purchases: nachos, to share, a starburst showbag and many free giggles. Mum also found a accessory-designing young Indian businessman, who she took quite a fancy to. #showlife
