I took some 20 minutes to listen to The Inside Story clip by Dennis Onsarigo titled The Desert of Death and I got quite concerned [I dont want to tell you my state at the time! You see, Im a man and men need to appear strong]. A government that suspects a contaminated water source [some wells drilled more than 50 years ago around an area where some capitalistic fellows probably foreign nationals were exploring oil] is slowly but surely killing her population [majorly aged above 40 years] as well as animals and says [I guess through that ceremonial Government Chemist Johansen Oduor] it is due to high dissolved salts [this is an insult] is to say the least incompetent! That the wells are still operational when over 60 people have been reported death from some kind of cancer and scores are ailing is blatant and utter disregard of the health and safety of her people. That no one seems to be doing anything to alleviate this menace but to leave residents of Karigi [and generally Marsabit County] on their own is worse than not having a government at all. It serves no purpose. Do we have any government anyway? Have we had any in the last 50 years? Where are the Scientists? What can we do? Cant we have concerted efforts to get to the bottom of this? I will try my part with my meager means - piecing together information to give this ailment [cancer] a deadly blow. So, help me God. My heart bleeds for the residents.
