I took the girls to get pedicures today. Its so interesting for me to observe both girls in similar situations... Emily wanted to have a pedi, loved the entire process of having her feet pampered and deciding on a nail polish colour was almost painful for me...it took...FOREVER. She was polite with the staff and was happy as she left. Liv wanted me to cancel her appointment at the last minute and when I told her it wouldnt be right to cancel with such little notice, she huffed and puffed and acquiesced with a growl. She hates cutting her nails and she despises people touching her feet. As she gets older though, I find that she acts more stoic now in many situations and under many more circumstances she can be slightly more tolerant than when she was younger. Rather than melting down like she used to, she grits her teeth to bear the weight of whatever sense is being invaded or overwhelmed ~ be it smell, noise or touch...then immediately she needs to go home or to a quiet spot to be alone and to self-soothe. She likes to draw or write or lay down quietly for a rest. Im so glad I can say that understand her so much better now (...it only took 14 years) Dont get me wrong...its not sunshine and rainbows...but were learning day-by-day, just like everyone else... And thats okay!
