I totally dig it when a Blogger can answer questions I tend to bumble. When we were kids my folks gave us a gift on Christmas and (tried) to have a stocking filled for us on Christmas morning, but Mom was a little irked by the whole gimme aspect of the holiday on a day set aside to recognize and commemorate the birth of a powerful prophet of God, so we got most of our gifts at midnight on the New Year. This was symbolic of new things for the new year. When Cadence was born, it was easier to give in to the whole cultural aspects of the holiday, but we are moving away from identifying with Christmas primarily, and, instead, acknowledging that we are celebrating with our loved ones who are not Bahai. We have a few relatives. We will probably always have a tree, we sing carols, make cookies and LOVE secret santa... We will exchange modest gifts on Christmas day with our loved ones--winter is a lovely time to spend together and gifts are always lovely. On Christmas evening David and I are hosting a Devotional and look forward to reflecting on the life, work and teachings of Christ and praying with Dear ones. And singing. There will DEFINITELY be singing. :)
