I totally understand that we need to be careful that majority rule doesnt equal minority oppression. I get it. But safe, equitable rights for the INDIVIDUAL are just simply not possible without a well-reasoned, ENFORCEABLE general consensus, with honesty & fairness being essential factors in the equation. And smart, vigilant SELF-GOVERNANCE by all who are governed is key! Call it a paradox, an oxymoron, whatever you like; but I call it the primary principle that makes our form of government second to none, as evidenced by history---but ONLY when we the people ACT on it.
