I tried to get out of this one ! 1 Corinthians. 15: 12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: 14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. 15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not. 16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: 17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. 18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. 20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christs at his coming. 24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. Notice in verse 12 there were those who didnt believe in the resurrection. Why? I asked why and He has showed me through their social history. Corinthians were still given to a Greek philosophical mindset. This was called dualism that was Platonic(born 428 bc in Athens), Aristotles(384 BC) , and further into history Socrates (487 BC). There are many others but these were considered great minds of theology/ philosophy. These are the same guys who had an influence in pagan society and still influences todays society. This was the cause of confusion with Cornith. These philosophies of man and his reasoning and his adaptation of a consciousness is very dangerous. Now there are some commentaries that think the sadduces may have influenced these thoughts that the resurrection was repulsive and disgusting. But I think maybe they (the sadduces) were probably influenced by these philosophers. Just my opinion. Dualism is a philosophy of the mind which holds a position that mental phenomena are not physical or that mind , soul, and body are not identical when scripture tells us different. It encompasses a set of views about the relationship between mind and matter (physical body of matter). In this philosophy is Aristoles and Platos view of multiple souls better know as psyche. Yep psyche very dangerous stuff. As you look at this history, we see the issues of Cornith and we can see the same issues that is constantly trying to change the church today through the society in which we function in on a day to day basis. We have to become like children again and move away from what we think we know and mature in Gods love His Gospel. Putting away our childish thoughts and philosophies of this world (being transformed by the renewing of our mind) and be that image (the mirror) of the full Gospel of Christ Its something to think about . In verse 19 we are of all men the most pitiable. We need to bring all things to obedience with Him. Because as more of mans ideas of consciousness begins to be forced upon the church will we allow it to transform us or will we continue in faith, in hope, and in love proclaiming the Full Gospel of Christ?
