I tried to post this earlier and it did not take. So, I will attempt it again. This is a Ralph Stanley rendering entitled: Gloryland. He was born on February 25, 1927, in McClure Va. He moved as a child to Big Spraddle Va, in Dickenson Co. Va. He has lived his entire life in these mountains. He is famous for forming: The Stanley Brothers in the 1940s and then The Clinch Mountain Boys, in the 1950s. He is an iconic figure in the the bluegrass world, as-well-as in the Gospel music world. Gloryland, is a product of some of the first forms of American music. Anthropologists and ethnomusicologists, called it: Primitve Baptist Gospel. Mr. Stanley, earned a grammy, in 2002, for the song: O Death, of which was performed in the movie: O Brother Where Art Thou. Which of course is a rendering of: Homers, The Illiad. Our early musical art forms are a collage of: Country, blues, mountain, old-time music, gospel and folk--all of which have an English-folk-music influence. I heard these forms every Sunday morning and Weds, night that I was with my grandmother, in southern Indiana. She called it: Prayer-go-to-meetin-day! Decades ago, I accompanied a friend of mine to Busy, Kentucky, to help him bury his infant sister, of whom had passed from SIDS. His family, prepared the remains, conducted the service and built the coffin, of which she was laid-to-rest in, in one of their family plots. Their neighbors and friends, performed this very song in this very manor. It was a life changing and altering event in my young-life at the time. I hope that you enjoy it, on Prayer-go-To-Meetin-Day! Peace Dave Morgan
