I tried to write ComEd a poem...I still gotta pay that bill tomorrow. But Im an art-iest, I told my landlord. I dont usually take to FB to share my personal business or rant, but I want to let you guys know that Ive been misdiagnosed with A.S.S. Its a disease that spreads amongst the artistic community. Im fighting to put a stop to ARTIST STUGGLE SYNDROME! Its no longer cute to be so artistically busy that you cant pay your rent. I get it, we are the mirror to the soul of the world but if you are approaching 30 like me or already beyond and you havent starred in a movie opposite Viola or Liam just yet, its time to start thinking how we can gain financial independence that DOESNT take away from our art. We are willing to work 14 jobs to make up for what some people earn with one 9to5 they hate. I aint doing that no more. And those doing both, ITS HARD to work a full time job you DONT like and then go to somebodys rehearsal for 6 hours, 6 days a week.. Have you ever experienced TECH while working a full time job you hate? Hell Aint you tired of missing auditions youd know youd kill because you gotta whomp whomp: work? AND if you want to make the steps to be a full time I-rehearse-during-the-day artist, whats your financial plan when the role is done? Ive NEVER worked a 9to5...never plan to but we play in a world with limitless possibilities that exist on AND off stage. Explore your other options. Money doesnt make you happy but youd be happier at rehearsal if you had some. I LOVE teaching children acting, I LOVE designing graphics, I LOVE learning how to stage manage for the first time but IM at actor/poet/performing artist, whatever you wanna call me so I LOVE taking the time to make entrepreneurial moves to get my financial ball rolling so I can accept any role and sit indian style in the middle of my apartment and write all day. You 25 years old, your friends are buying houses and you cant afford food but you talented though. My mama paying off my student loans for a school she didnt go to, but Im talented though. Find a side hustle that will give you time and freedom to dedicate your brains muscle to your craft as some of you deeply define it. I found mine and at 27, Ive finally stopped asking Mama Beasley for gas money. Maybe you like couch surfing...this aint for you. If youre not an artist...whats your excuse..I mean reason for not having the things and experiences you want out of life? Already found the side hustle? What do you do that allows you to be an artist. Share. Lets continue to be able to keep saying Im an artist and Im sensitive about my.... This should have been a blog post... :-) Ok back to my netflix and designing and doing whatever the heck I want to-ing...
