I truly appreciate this exchange. It is definitely a, better learning tool. I am constantly reminded, though, of an Egyptian woman I met. She grew up in Syria and, spoke, fluently, the major dialects of the region... Five, I believe. Her family left for Europe where she learned several other languages, including English in Great Britain. She was in her 30s, I believe, when she ventured to the U.S. And she could not understand a single word anyone was saying! When I met her, she had been here for about 10-years and was still having difficulty with total translation. Though she and her family were doing well fighting through the difficulties. The English language in the U.S. is a complicated mix of many dialect. Along with the regional differences of class and, code... it is almost impossible to learn it. And, socially at least, it is ever evolving. My parents didnt get, Groovy Man... I dont get, meme... In general, it is generationally themed. So, how are we to place such priority to insist learned people of other continental expectation be on the board with linguistic expertise? Exactly which English, is it, that is expected of them? I always love the quote: We (the international english speaking world) are a people separated by a common language. How it makes sense when it doesnt make sense is my plurality;c)
