I try to keep my posts on the positive tip but I’m deeply troubled and saddened by this. The Kennedy Center Honors is the last bastion of PBS style programming on network television that celebrates high achievement in the arts. I’ve adored this event for years. Now David Rubenstein (head of the Carlyle Group) is handing the show over to Ken Ehrlich, the guy responsible for turning the Grammys into a ratings grabbing suck fest. By the way, when I was a kid, the Grammys used to present jazz and classical artists and more—as well as presenting the actual awards to a myriad of artists in every field which was televised—and we could see and learn about people in the industry. (Now it’s a performance show with usually only the top selling artists and they show about 8 awards given.) I hope something positive transpires where we can preserve the Kennedy Center Honors as it currently exists. But sadly, I doubt it. showbiz411/2014/12/30/tonights-kennedy-center-honors-could-be-last-of-its-kind-as-founding-producer-is-ousted
