I typically dont receive compliments well. I think, in part, that has to do with not seeing myself in the same light - my own self perception didnt match the compliments I was given. Lately, Ive had my chin up more than I have in several years. Im starting to feel like my old self again (or maybe I should say my young self again). Anyways, enough of that bullshit. There have been a few compliments that Ive gotten recently that have stuck with me for days after. On Saturday morning, I received a paragraph on Facebook Messenger that included the following... Hey man. I read your labels post and I laughed so hard I nearly shot my morning coffee out my nose. ...I thought your perspective to be hilarious...Thanks for the laugh and heres to not taking ourselves too seriously! I didnt even know this person paid attention to anything I posted. It was from an unexpected source - an encouraging surprise. The day before, in a brief conversation, someone told me the following... You see things differently than a lot of people. You can find fun and humor and enjoyment in things that most people wouldnt. I appreciated that, because it took something that I have been self-concious about into a compliment - Ive battled for years thinking I was weird. While many people seem to want to be unique, I just wanted to be normal or fit in. (That goes back to that bullshit about my self image that I started this with. Which is what booze, ice cream and buying oversized SUVs is for, right?) Finally, heres to looking at the bright side of things. I recently received one of the best rejections I have ever gotten. I asked a rather striking woman out, and she turned me down. However the rejection included calling me ballsy and refreshing. ...which actually isnt the first time I have been described as refreshing. I guess Im a tall drink of water. So, cheers to giving and receiving compliments. We are approaching Christmas, after all, and compliments dont cost money. PS: I also found out that someone told Nate Hodorek: The bromance between you and Kristian is my favorite thing on Facebook. That put a big grin on my face.
