I understand, respect, and support her action to end her own life - TopicsExpress

I understand, respect, and support her action to end her own life before the dementia overwhelmed her. There needs to be a legal way for terminal, horribly sick, and elderly individuals that choose it to seek end of life choices. If I were in her position I, too, would do the same thing. Alan Watts once said that death shouldnt be something that we run from, cower from, and are in terror of in every moment of our lives. Death is a natural part of a biological beings life. It should be treated with respect, and with intellectual honesty. One thing that he said that has stuck in my mind is his idea of a living wake. It would be a party where all of ones loved ones and friends show up, celebrate ones life, and say goodbye in an epic farewell party. Then afterwards one can die in the way he/she sees fit with dignity, and surrounded by those whom he/she loved. Death is a part of life. Life is a part of death. In order to be free we must be able to freely choose our own exit. She planned and followed through with her own end of life procedure. This was right for her. She was still the being that she appreciated and approved of. I wouldnt want to devolve into an invalid either. If I am ever faced with such a choice, I, too, will follow this womans example. Live well. Die well if possible. This is your life. Do with it what you will. vancouversun/health/Dead+noon+grandma+ends+life+rather+than+suffer+indignity/10132068/story.html
