I understand that BRA (VAT office) is now charging VAT on - TopicsExpress

I understand that BRA (VAT office) is now charging VAT on complimentary tickets (they say its in the law to do this). My question to the VAT office is, since a complimentary ticket has no price on it how then do you calculate the VAT? Do you calculate in on the market price of the ticket? if the answer is yes,... ok... but lets say the ticket prices are tiered; early bird $50, followed by $70, $80 at the door, VIP $200, how then do you calculate the VAT? So depending on your answer, lets say I create my own loophole and decide to print my comps with a price tag of 1cent each (since you cant tell me what price to sell my tickets at) to avoid you charging a heavier VAT, what happens then? What if instead of issuing a comp ticket I issue letters of invitation? It is obvious that someone did not think this through. Seriously though, I feel I wasting my talent, I could make money as a consultant.
