I understand that some may find Natalie Maines (Dixie Chicks lead) - TopicsExpress

I understand that some may find Natalie Maines (Dixie Chicks lead) rude and outspoken; but what many dont know is the heroic and pivotal role she played in freeing the West Memphis Three To those not aware: in 1993, West Memphis, Arkansas, three 8-year-old boys were murdered. Their bodies were found in a creek. Three local teenagers were arrested and put on trial for the crimes. The case was based on fear mongering, junk science, self professed Satanism experts. All of it severely lacking in substance. Still, all three defendants were convicted. Two were sentenced to life in prison, the other sentenced to death. After watching a documentary on the case, Natalie Maines became convinced of the innocence of the men, who had been dubbed the West Memphis Three. Teaming up with Johnny Depp and musician Eddie Vedder, Maines vigorously fought to see justice done. She raised money for their defense efforts. She kept the case in the public eye. The attention generated eventually led to a review by some of the worlds greatest legal and forensic minds; and in 2011, after 18 long years in prison, the West Memphis Three were released. At the end of the day, Natalie Maines does have a good heart, and thats pretty awesome.
