I understand that some of you lovely people find confessions of this nature irritating, so apologies up front. During freshman year I found an article about a student who graduated with 18 A+s and 8 As. I was like, LOL imma beat them as a joke- there are many other goals that are probably better choices. Yet Im graduating with 28 A+s and 7 As. I worked like hell for 9 semesters, and even though a lot of luck and privilege were involved, I am thankful and happy with my work. Grades (sick of reading about them?) dont do much in terms of strengthening my ethos, but I want to add that I agree: its often beneficial to chill out more about grades and know when to prioritize something else instead. On paper, I have little research or work experience, and struggle with job and graduate school applications (I was recently early-rejected from a grad school, for example. I didnt know they did that). Im a strong applicant for a number of jobs, but I hid it well behind my focus on academics and my lone extracurricular activity. First world problems? Definitely. This confession is mine alone and I mean it to have no bearing on what anyone else should do. Im confident that ego-stroking and pure reflection are both involved here, and you can trust me that the latter is my reason for writing this post. Im just a human being learning from a few mistakes :). Also I will miss Cal like crazy!
