I understand the disdain that medical professionals often have for - TopicsExpress

I understand the disdain that medical professionals often have for people seeking medical information and advice on the internet. BUT, this week, the information I found on the internet was MUCH more helpful than my attempts to get medical advice from professionals. One office failed to call me back for three days. That one apparently cant fit me in this month. Another has appointments in 2-3 weeks, except that the doctor is on vacation part of that time. Thanks to info from the internet, I now know that hives are actually caused by allergic reaction less than half of the time. I also know they can be caused by a viral infection, AND that they usually resolve and MOST of the time no cause is ever found, not even with the skin testing. None of the 3 medical offices mentioned any of that. The internet explained why a steroid shot may help AND the risks of the steroids; urgent care didnt explain either. The internet also suggested several different antihistamines, including notes on which ones have more tendencies to which side effects. One helpful professional, the pharmacist, verified this info, and now Ive been hive-free, yet still productive, all day!
