I unfriended someone today - its the first time Ive ever done it. She told me I wasnt a complete woman, because I hadnt had a child. I wasnt a mother, so therefore couldnt understand the depth of feeling one has for a child when its their own. I felt so disappointed at her sanctimonious attitude, and her lack of feeling - perhaps it was an overreaction, but it hurt. I shared something today on my page, which got her riled up, comparing fertilised embryos with refugee children - perhaps it was insensitive those that have gone through gruelling IVF, or those that have lost babies, but it was a point well made about the horrific situation going on in Gaza. My childlessness is not a choice, but a fact of life! As my years wind down, I have grown to accept that the joy of motherhood is not mine to have. That being said, I have wonderful nephews, both through blood and marriage, gorgeous cousins, and the most adorable Godson. Other people are doing the hard job of having and raising these kids, while I get to enjoy the fun and fruit of their labours (pun intended). I get to spend time with them, without the bother of parenting, I get to be the cool auntie who passes on knowledge and useless information. I am the one that gets to play, but doesnt have to deal with the tiredness, mess and irritability at the end of the day. If I have offended anyone else with that post, I am sorry, but as the saying goes opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one. Peace!
