I use to be a fan of Eloras Cave Books, but their recent delcline ins editing quality has pushed me away to some degree. still I would hate to see them go down, because it only means more will follow. Im a proud Indy and plan to mostly remain so, but I also see the need for publishers. And after reading this article I want to harp on something, because I have seen quite a few scoff at EC that their laying considerable blame on Amazon as being an escape goat. Maybe it is, but what they shared in this article isnt just them feeling this, lots of us are. I know I have with mine and my brothers books. But the odd thing here and I wish I had the resources to contest it. Amazons Lawyers told EC Amazon has every right to do what they are doing. Actually they DONT> Amazon has a contract agreement with authors/publishers to launch and sell their books on the claims that Amazon is the largest retail platform for books with more reach and sales than any competitor. We did not agree to a contract to be stuffed under the rug as being nothing more than a number so they can say they have more books but not be able to reap the sales based on our own marketing attempts. Nowhere did I sign up in agreement that I was willing to have Amazon undermine all my marketing and advertising attempts with blacked out algorithms. Never did I agree for Amazon to limit how many reviews I can receive. You can go to Amazon and type in a title, some will auto finish, some dont. For me and Talon: Only two out of all ours will. Last time I Google our titles, the Amazon listing showed up on the second page not the first. SOOOO in reflecting on what I have experienced, I have to stand with Eloras Cave that Amazon likely does have its part in this, maybe not all of it, But as authors I dont see how we can naysay that it doesnt have any. missprimm/elloras-cave-e-book-sales-a-cautionary-first-amendment-tale/
