I use to grow watermelons when I was a teenager and had pretty good success. I use to love going out early in the morning while the dew was still laying heavy upon the vines and cut a small one. I would have breakfast in the garden and all I needed was a knife and a salt shaker. This is the time of the year I use to do that and I guess the heavy dew this morning brought some good memories flowing back into my mind. I do have a couple of melons growing this year and I think one might just disappear this morning. There is nothing better than a home grown watermelon with its sweet taste capturing the taste buds and almost holding them hostage. It has been a great garden year with lots of tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, peppers, lettuce, onions, and rhubarb. Now we get ready for the fall to flow forth with all its brilliant colors. Turnips are growing well and it will not be long before the first frost will nip the weeds out of them. I love to fix turnips with some homemade pork sausage and a little red pepper giving them a good hardy flavor. I do enjoy just pealing one in the garden and eating it raw. I think they have an acquired taste, because people either love them or hate them. I dont think there is any in between. Just praise the Lord of an other day he has allowed us to awake to face the new challenges of the day. Eat a good breakfast and be on your way thanking God for the ability to do your job. Spread some loving words around and throw some good smiles out for those who you will see today. Blessings on your day. Written by Harold E. Miller
