I used this song as a warm-up at Zumba without thinking twice, but - TopicsExpress

I used this song as a warm-up at Zumba without thinking twice, but the author of this article is dead on. To my Zumba girls, I am so sorry for using it in the lineup. This song has a catchy beat, and its lyrics are supposed to be body-positive, but theyre the opposite. You do not need junk in certain places to be attractive (itty bitty committee members, were gorgeous too!), a big, round booty to attract men (because, well were not all into men and we are not objects anyway), and no matter what we look like on the outside, its the stuff on the inside that matters. I refuse to promote body-negativity, shame, distorted body images, or disordered eating, so the song is out of the lineup permanently. I am so sorry for not censoring it before now. Come to class because its fun, you like to dance, and it makes you feel good. I stand by what Ive said all along: Never come to class to lose weight, get rid of certain curves, or develop other ones. Come to shake your butt, no matter how little, big, or in-between it is. Or rather, come to move your soul, because if you feel good on the inside, youll feel better about the outside too.
