I used to go to Saddleback when I could during the week to practice and watch the other riders..always some factory riders practicing and testing...if Danny LaPorte was not on the track he was riding around the pits with his blonde girlfriend on the back of his Suzuki. Warren Reid.. Tommy Croft, Marty Smith and the Honda guys..everybody was there..really cool. One day while practicing, when I was about 16, Billy Payne went by me and I was right behind him...his roost from his big bore Maico almost blew me off my bike..knocked the wind out of me and took a chunk of the silkscreened lettering off my Coast Moto Cycle jersey...was looking through old pictures and found this one and was thinking the Payne family has quite a heritage in So Cal Motocross...with Billy...Nancy..Lori Payne and this kid..Billy Payne Jr. Taken at the GH National in 2000.
