I used to really like Ricky Gervais, or at least I thought I did. I found the many memes with quotes from him flouting around Facebook to be quite pithy and clever - quotes like, Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right, and, You have the right to believe in whatever you want. I have the right to believe its ridiculous. And then I watched his stand-up act: nothing but crude, juvenile, hurtful, and not terribly funny fat jokes. Really? I can only account for his popularity in the U.S. by guessing people think his accent makes him smart - which proves how stupid we are, but not how smart he is. I wish we were friends, Ricky, so I could unfriend you.
