I used to say You cant be perfect, but that doesnt mean you shouldnt try to be. The wonderful thing about Gods grace, though, is that you dont have to be perfect. In fact, we shouldnt try to be perfect. Instead of striving to make ourselves perfect, we (or personally speaking, I at that point and probably even now) need to realize that God is all the perfection we will ever need in our lives. Through God we are made clean and righteous, no matter how ugly in spirit, selfish, corrupt, or sinful we are. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. There are no conditions to Romans 3:23. We will always fall short of him. Our faith is not about us trying to be worthy of God, because the fact is that we will never be worthy. No matter if it was before or after we came to faith; no matter how good or bad we are or claim to be- we are not worthy. It was never about us, but about Gods grace and glory. So dont strive to be perfect. Instead of striving to better ourselves, we need to strive to better glorify God. Forget about yourself and let God be your strength and you will do great things with and for Him.
