I used to walk for miles in the woods with my gun or bow in hand... Hunting for meat for the table.... I would spend hours enjoying the birds telling me if something were coming.... As a bird eats seeds from the seemingly dying trees and dropping them elsewhere to re plant Gods wonders of the forest ... I would read a book.....pray...think to my self about mistakes Ive made in life...folks Ive wronged and how I could try my best to do better. Each year I longed for my time outdoors...sleeping on the ground at times to get to a far away places and awake to the thrill of the hunt.... Hearing a pack of coyotes or an owl...or perhaps nothing...so much nothing that I could not sleep for fear I would miss it....that moment of thrill to be among Gods creatures.... I would look at a dead tree and wonder how I could make use of it....make something from it to honor its life...only to see a flying squirrel had made its home in its hollow form...what better honor is there than home... I thank God for my friends and all he has given me... As my health slowly fails, I see myself leaning farther and farther from the hunt and more toward fellowship with friends....and sharing my tails of the woods. Taking them with me when I can to attempt to share what I have learned as to keep the history alive. I think of our veterans that have fought for my freedom to have enjoyed this learning adventure....nothing I could do could re-pay that but love & prayers. This Thanksgiving I look not so much to the woods yet to that fellowship. Sharing with friends...good music... Stories...just time spent. I can not un-do my mistakes any more than the rest of us..... But I can try and do better everyday... I lead you into Thanksgiving week with a thank you....well wishes.... Tomorrow is no promise so kiss your family....hold friends dear.... As I watch the bluejays scwawk to alert his friends to a jackpot of food so he can help keep them alive? I learn that we should do much the same.... Help each other survive...learn....MAKE IT! As we give thanks this coming week? Really give thanks....dont just say it... Thank you God for the trees we sleep under...our food...our friends...our protective services.... Our very breath... And our children...our future... Did we scwawk like the bluejay? As to help them make it? Did we sleep under a tree? Learning from them? Hunting this year is not my priority...it is fellowship.... I pray a good week for all of you...and a great year to come.... Happy Thanksgiving..... Sit at the table and skwawk!
