I usually do not like to get on any kind of soapbox, so to speak, - TopicsExpress

I usually do not like to get on any kind of soapbox, so to speak, but I would like to make a simple public service announcement for a very few people who do not seem to be clear on the #BLACKLIVESMATTER concept. It DOES NOT mean that ONLY black lives matter, and other lives DO NOT matter. A recent analysis (ProPublica) states that young black men are 21 times more likely to be fatally shot by police than young white men. Despite the three most recognized cases we have seen towards the end of the year (Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice) they represent merely a fraction of African Americans killed by police for whom justice has turned its back. There is the key: Time and time again, we see that justice is NOT served when African Americans, often unarmed and innocent, are killed by police officers. The officers walk free. This is nothing new, and THAT is the problem. The problem is that too often, according to our justice system, black lives DO NOT matter! And it’s been 50 years since the Civil Rights Act! The tragedy of good police officers getting killed is also nothing new. I remember being five years old in Carteret, New Jersey, and hearing about an officer in my neighborhood being shot 10 times (I was so impressed by his heroism I actually wanted to be a police officer, if you could imagine such a thing ). However, justice is always sought in such cases. You can rest assured that no cop killer is going to walk free. He will be hunted down, killed vigilante style, and/or brought to justice and spend the rest of his life in prison. Very few exceptions, I assure you. So please… P-L-E-A-Z-E- do not confuse #MATTERS. Neither cry out that #BLACKLIVESMATTER is “racist” and causing “division”. The only people who are causing division are the people who do not understand the simple facts I just explained and are not standing in solidarity with our fellow African American brothers and sisters. I hope I have made this clear enough for the very few who have not yet grasped it. Peace and Love... to ALL ~
