I very much like the people who make up Residocracy, and I am proud to be part of this movement. I am wondering how this terrific group of people can be most effective in the upcoming election, and I am wondering if we need to have a sort of mission statement as to our goals. It seems to me that if we want to be a political party we have to take stands on a myriad of issues, some of which I suspect certain people on this site care nothing about. On the other hand, if we are going to be an advocacy group or watchdog group or lobbying group, then it seems to me that we can focus on selected core issues. I am wondering if anyone else has any thoughts on this subject. If the purpose of Residocracy is to limit traffic and limit growth and limit (to the extent possible) anything that diminishes the quality of life of the residents of Santa Monica, would it be better for us to be a political party that competes with SMRR (and endorses, for example, candidates for the college board) or would it be better for us to be an advocacy group that lobbies SMRR and others to consider and (hopefully) adopt our positions? I dont know the answer. I believe our ultimate goal is to be effective in bringing about the change that we want, and that perhaps we could benefit from a discussion as to how to best accomplish that, with, of course, the continued leadership of Laura, Kate, and Armen and the other leaders of this movement. I would like to read what other (smarter) people think about how our group (with its wonderfully effective and organized leadership) can best use the power of Residocracy to accomplish our goals. It seems to me - and I am no one important - that maybe we want to consider formally endorsing candidates, and then maybe we want to collect money to send out a mailer for the candidates we endorse, and maybe we want to organize precinct walkers for our candidates, and maybe we want to have some structure wherein the candidates we endorse can tout that they have the Residocracy endorsement. Is anyone else interested organizing so that we can help the candidate(s) who carry our torch get elected in November?
