I very much like this paper (open access) posted by Lester Jones, which supports the idea that expectation/non-specific effects are the main ingredient in spinal manipulation results, good or bad. The same is true of ANY manual therapy. Maybe one day everyone will *stop* being so fixated on, riveted by this stupid human trick. Id put stabbing with needles in the same conceptual basket, labelled Things to take to Incinerator. There is nothing wrong with plain and simple and comfortable human primate grooming, delivered after some pain education, and followed up by some suggestions for movement therapy and behavioural changes.
