I visited this part of Peru and Brazil in the summer of 1995 as part of my great South American adventure and although nearly costing me my life it was truly one of my most amazing experiences. I have so many wonderful memories and tales of that expedition but the most striking was coming across this one village - after 6 weeks of trecking through the Amazonian jungle - drifting down rivers and visiting more and more villages and tribes. it was truly magical . Some of the tribes showef great hospitality towards us - one even nursing me back to health after I got very sick - but on one occasion I remeber waking up surrounded by guns and bows and arrows being pointed at us . As much as some of the ttibee want to be left alone that does not mean to be allowed to raid and attack other villages at will - especially when the tribes being attacker have decided to place themselves under the protection of the Peruvian or Brazilian Government . Its a very difficult situation - one that I recall Braxil was handling better than Brazil . To Ingrid Fankhauser and Jenny Baker whose fore soght saved my life on this occasion - i hope you read rhis are both well and enjoying a fabulous Christmas
